The Burning of the Bra-Burner
They tied her to the stake.
Chanting,
Man Hater.
Man Hater.
Man Hater.
She searched for him,
the one she loved,
the father of her children.
His shoulders slumped,
his eyes red with weeping,
there he stood,
alone, in the angry mob.
The lecherous fire circled her,
the heat of its breath,
tickling her feet.
The feet that walked her children
into adulthood.
In its passion, the fire ripped through her,
and lingered in searing agony on her arms.
The arms that held her man together
when he was broken.
At last, the kiss of death, the fire planted
on her ravaged mouth.
The mouth that spoke up for what was right.
The mouth that protested against injustice,
be it woman, man, creature or child.
But the people seek what they serve
and cast all else aside.
As the satanic flames licked her face,
her hands still clutched
the Mother Goddess pendant around her neck.
Together they melted in a fiery union.
Her charred ashes mixed with those
of her now silenced sisters,
as yet another brave daughter
returned to Mother Earth’s embrace.
